Meet Pastor David Allison
Pastor David Allison came to St. John in August 2023, after retiring from ministry in the North Alabama Conference (UMC) in 2021.
“I am pleased and honored to pastor St. John Church,” Pastor David said. “The congregation of St. John are welcoming and kind, and I sense they truly want to serve Jesus. The worship is dignified as they emphasize ‘hymns, liturgy, and teaching’.”
In his previous ministry, Pastor David served churches around North Alabama. Appointments at Phil Campbell and Shady Grove (Muscle Shoals) introduced him to the Shoals and influenced his desire to retire here. Other areas of previous ministry include Gordo, Upper Sand Mountain, Calera, Oxford, and Guin. Pastor David and his wife Joy together have nine adult children and 13 grandchildren.
When the Global Methodist Church formed in 2022, Pastor David transferred his credentials to become an Elder in the North Alabama Annual Conference of the Global Methodist Church.
“St. John is a special place to worship and serve,” Pastor David said. “I hope many others will come to experience the warm hospitality and genuineness of the people, and the love of God through the grace of our Lord Jesus and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.”

History of St. John Methodist Church
March-April, 1958: A survey was conducted in the Underwood-Petersville area by Rev. James E. Harris and the Wesley Foundation and Florence State College. Nine families indicated an interest in starting a new Methodist church in the community. Organizational meetings were held in the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Van Irons, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Jones, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stevens. Rev. H.C. (Jack) Hendricks was appointed minister of this new church. The name chosen for this new church was St. John.
June 1, 1958: Our first worship service was held in a rented garage across from Underwood School. 43 people were in attendance.
January 1959: St. John completed the first of three educational buildings. Worship and Sunday School classes were held here.
1960: The second educational building was completed in January 1960, and worship services were moved to this building. In the fall, the third educational building was completed.
1965 – 1966: On February 14, 1965, an open house was held for the new sanctuary. Over 400 people were in attendance. In the Spring and Summer of 1965, the construction of our parsonage began, and it was completed in June of 1966.
1968: The Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church merged to form The United Methodist Church. As such, our new name was St. John United Methodist Church.

Why St. John Methodist Church?
Below are just a few of the things that make our church family a special place to be:
Caring: God’s love fills our hearts and we strive to demonstrate His love in our lives. From the youngest child to the oldest adult, everybody is somebody at St. John.
Sharing: Our family is committed to sharing the message of salvation through Jesus Christ with everyone because everyone is someone for whom Christ died.
Fellowship: We are a place where people can come and build lasting friendships with other believers. Our family provides a place of encouragement, support, and fellowship that is so vital to the Christian life.
Growing: Our goal is to help every believer grow in their understanding of God’s Word so that each one can experience the victory and joy of life in Jesus Christ.
Our purpose is to be a fellowship of disciples who love God and show His love to the lost, to each other and to the world. We do this through worshiping God, celebrating His gifts, calling and educating disciples and providing sustenance for their spiritual growth, serving the community by individual and corporate involvement assisting people in their daily living.
As Christians, we believe that God’s grace and love is extended to all people in all places around the world. In John 3:16-17, Jesus said, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”
We believe that salvation is a gift from God through faith in Jesus’ birth, death, burial and resurrection. Ephesians 2:8 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God”.

ALL ARE SINNERS
Romans 3:23:
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
GOD’S REMEDY FOR SIN
Romans 6:23:
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 3:3:
3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
John 14:6:
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
HOW TO RECEIVE
Romans 10:9-11:
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”
2 Corinthians 5:15:
15 and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.
ALL MAY BE SAVED NOW
Revelation 3:20:
20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
